Disposable TipChips are assay-specific microarrays for use with the Ziplex Automated Workstation. The TipChip embodies the Flow-Thru Chip technology in a disposable device consisting of a 6.5 mm square chip mounted on a polycarbonate tube. The chip is made of porous silicon with >200,000 microchannels. A single capture probe spot comprises approximately 70 to 100 microchannels. Molecular interactions occur within the three dimensional matrix of these channels as target solutions pass through. This approach facilitates the interaction between target molecules and immobilized probes, resulting in 3 to 4 times faster hybridization. Using high precision robotics, capture probes are spotted into arrays with up to 484 features. Depending on the number of replicate features and control spots, each TipChip can interrogate up to 120 different genes. TipChip are manufactured in a quality controlled, clean room environment.
